We understand that life can throw unexpected curveballs, and sometimes, financial challenges happen. If you haven’t been in touch for a while and are feeling unsure about your next steps, we want you to know that we are here to support you.

Your dedicated Account Manager is ready to listen to your unique story and work with you to find solutions that fit your situation. Just talking about it is often the hardest part, but it gets easier once you start.

To help you with taking the first step, Mason, our Head of Collections, and team put together these five FAQs.

1. Some people feel nervous about talking to us, why do you think that is, and how do you try to make it easier for them?

Customers who do speak to us express anxiety around the uncertainty of how the conversation will go and what the consequences might be. Here at Ume Loans our Account Managers are well trained in helping customers who are experiencing financial difficulty take back control of their situation by finding the right solutions.

2. What can happen if someone doesn’t address their debt? How can things get better once they take the first step?

Not addressing your debt can have serious long-term impacts, such as a reduced credit score making it harder to secure future finance, having to pay more due to extra interest or fees, or increased debt-stress. Once you take the first steps to have a conversation with the Account Management team, we can work with you towards saving money on your loan, improving your credit score, or reducing some of the weight of your shoulders.

3. What kind of help or options can people expect when they reach out to your team?

Importantly, customers can expect to speak to a caring, understanding team with no judgement. Each customer has a dedicated Account Manager, so you won’t have to explain your story twice. Once your Account Manager has listened and understood your situation, we can offer you tailored support under our hardship program – such as reduced payments, a pause on your interest, or even a discounted settlement.

4. What would you say to someone who feels overwhelmed about owing money?

You are not alone, and what you are feeling is normal. The best outcomes come from taking accountability and having a conversation with your Account Manager. The good news is, once we start talking, things will feel a lot more manageable and we will always take the time to find a solution that works for you, if you take the time to talk to us.

5. How do you and your team talk to people who are behind on payments?

All our Account Managers receive regular training on how to approach difficult situations with empathy. Your Account Manager will talk to you with a focus to understand your individual circumstances and how they can help with a real solution that suits you.
